Broadway casts of The Lion King and Aladdin have incredible sing-off while stuck at airport

They performed hits including the Circle of Life and Arabian Nights to disgruntled passengers in a packed departures lounge

Casts of the Lion King and Aladdin have treated frustrated air passengers to an impromptu sing-off during a six-hour delay in the US.

The Broadway actors were stuck at LaGuardia Airport in New York during bad weather while waiting for their flight to Orlando in Florida on Sunday.

The gauntlet was thrown down by the Lion King cast, who opened with the Circle of Life, drawing a crowd of spectators in the packed departures terminal.

Not to be outdone, James Iglehart who plays the Genie in Aladdin, launched into a freestyle rap aimed at his rivals.

“You've been around for many years, y’all been making people laugh, people have some tears,” he said.

“As for us, we've only been around one but if you wanna see a show then we’re gonna have fun.”

After the Lion King hit back with another song from the show’s famous repertoire, the now large crowd of air travellers were treated to a performance of Arabian Nights.

It was the latest in a series of public performances by actors from Disney musicals.

A video showing the Australian Lion King cast’s rendition of the Circle of Life on a flight has been viewed more than 23 million times.

Aladdin opened at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre in March last year, while the Lion King is one of the longest-running shows in the New York theatre district’s history.

It has been at the Minskoff Theatre since 2006.
