Chavez recovering from op in Cuba

President Hugo Chavez says he is recovering well after undergoing surgery in Cuba for a pelvic abscess and noted that medical tests have shown no signs of any "malignant" illness.

Mr Chavez, who is recuperating in Havana, said the operation has not slowed him down and he is attending day-to-day duties while closely following events in Venezuela.

"Each passing day I feel better," said Mr Chavez, speaking during a telephone interview broadcast by the Telesur television network.
