Hurricane hits Mexican peninsula
While residents of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula began sweeping water out of their homes yesterday, people in Louisiana started packing their bags and heading north after experts said Hurricane Isidore could be heading their way.
Though downgraded to a tropical storm, Isidore continued to batter Yucatan before heading east. The US National Hurricane Centre said the storm was expected to swing back over the Gulf of Mexico, where it would probably regain strength and again become a hurricane later today.
In Mexico, Patricio Patron, the Governor of Yucatan, said officials had little immediate information about damage because of disrupted communications. But he said the storm had caused at least two deaths, including one electrocution."This is a disaster. We don't have enough information, and we don't have enough communication," he said.
