Jon Stewart warns America over Donald Trump presidency: 'F***ing buckle your seat belt'

'This incredible experiment in liberty and democracy that we fought and died for is going to go out – with that guy,' says Mr Stewart

American comedian Jon Stewart has warned people to “buckle [their] seat belts and get ready” ahead of Donald Trump’s presidency.

Speaking at a broadcasted conversation with the New York Times, the former host of the Daily Show also urged Americans to side with the “people who are going to be in the most jeaopady” under Mr Trump's rule.

Mr Stewart began by saying it was “odd to be in a position of knowing that the leader of the free world tweeted that you were a p***y at 1:30 in the morning,” in reference to a tweet posted by Mr Trump about Mr Stewart prior to his election victory.

The comedian then went on to urge people to side with those who will suffer under Mr Trump's presidency, but insisted Mr Trump could not "ruin everything".

“There will be real ramification to this election. [Find out] who are the vulnerable people, where are the vulnerable societies. And not in tweets, in practice. In reality," said Mr Stewart.

“If Trump tried to deport dreamers, then that’s where everyone has to go, to protect them. If he makes a Muslim registry, then everyone has to go there and help them.

“You have to find the people that are going to be in most jeopardy, I think, and put your attentions on them because now it’s about reality.

“But the only thing I would tell everybody to hearten is we’re still the same country. Obama didn’t change and fix everything and Trump can’t ruin everything. This incredible experiment in liberty and democracy that we fought and died for is going to go out – with that guy.

“Maybe I’m naïve or idiotic, but I feel like – when has this been easy? F***ing buckle your seat belt and get ready.”

It is not the first time Mr Stewart has taken aim against Mr Trump, having previously described him as an “angry tax and draft-dodging little orange groundhog”, a "man baby" and a "repentent narcissist".

Prior to the US election the pair took aim at one another in a series of Twitter exchanges, in which Mr Trump called out Mr Stewart for changing his name from a traditional Jewish one.

Mr Stewart spoke out about Mr Trump's election win for the first time in mid-November, describing the President-elect as a “repudiation of the Republicans”.
