A woman has been charged with murder after she drove onto a crowded Las Vegas Strip, killing a mum-of-three and injuring 35 others.

Lakeisha Holloway was also charged with leaving the scene of a collision, and child abuse or neglect - police said they found a three-year-old toddler in the car.

She mounted the pavement in front of the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, wher ethe Miss Universe pageant was nearing its finale inside.

Those injured were hit in two separate locations, with witnesses saying the driver mounted the pavement, then returned to the road before driving along a second section of pavement.

Tourist Rabia Qureshi, visiting from Wisconsin, told broadcaster KSNV that she saw victims "flying through the air" when the car crashed into the throng of people.

"The car was like a bowling ball and the human bodies were like pins," she said.

Holloway is being held in jail without bail and will appear in court on Wednesday.
