A man who has been accused of murdering his girlfriend posted gruesome pictures of her body on her Facebook page.

Jennifer Streit-Spears, 43, was stabbed multiples times. Two pictures of her and the alleged killer, Kenneth Alan Amyx, were uploaded onto social media with the caption: “Please pray for us”.

Ms Streit-Spears' sister immediately called the police in Plano, Texas, and tried to contact Facebook to get them taken down.

“I did ask them to remove it several times,” she told the Daily Dot, asking to remain anonymous. “They told me I could block Jennifer if I didn’t like what she posted and gave me similar options.”

Facebook initially thought the photos were posted by the victim. They have since been removed, as reported by Fox Dallas news, and is now an "in remembrance" page to celebrate her life.

“Facebook has long been a place where people share their experiences and raise awareness about important issues,” a Facebook spokesperson told the Daily News. “Sometimes, those experiences and issues involve violence and graphic images of public interest or concern.”

Police were called to the couple’s apartment on 29 May after reports of a domestic disturbance.

They forced their way into the building, where they discovered Mr Amyx outside the apartment with several self-inflicted stab wounds and the body of Ms Streit-Spears nearby.

Mr Amyx, 45, has been charged with murder and is being held for $600,000 bail after being treated for stab wounds in hospital.

He was also wanted for two cases of child sexual abuse crimes in Texas when he was arrested.

A neighbour of the former couple, Taylor Dunafan, told the CBS. “I didn’t see them every day. I don’t want to say often, but I mean I never heard anything.

"Anytime you saw people coming out of there, they looked normal, didn’t look angry, didn’t look like murderers or anything."
