A man has been arrested after allegedly pouring perfume over his girlfriend’s head and setting fire to her during a domestic dispute.
The incident is said to have taken place in the Springdale district of Pennsylvania at 7am last Thursday morning, with police arresting 27-year-old Clinton Cohen in a nearby house over the weekend.
The victim, 22-year-old Maria Redman, is the mother of Cohen’s three-month old daughter who was reportedly covered in her mother’s blood during the alleged attack.
Lieutenant Jeff Korczyk of Allegheny County police said Ms Redman is in a critical condition after suffering severe burns to 30 per cent of her body - primarily on her head and torso.
Korczyk added that following a “verbal domestic dispute”, Cohen choked and punched Ms Redman before he “opened a bottle of perfume, poured the perfume over the victim and then lit it with a cigarette lighter”.
According to WTAE.com, a Pittsburgh-based news website, Cohen has been charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Ms Redman has reportedly taken to her Facebook page to inform friends and family of her condition.
According to the Daily Mail she posted: “Thank you all for the prayers and wishes!! I'm in real bad pain but ill get thru it!!!! i have the best of parents and family and amazing friends!!!”
