A pea has been found sprouting in the lung of a 75-year-old man from Massachusetts.
Doctors feared cancer when they studied the X-rays of Ron Sveden and found a small dark spot. The former teacher already suffered from emphysema before his health got worse.
He was taken to hospital where he was found to have a collapsed lung and pneumonia. Two biopsies came back negative for lung cancer. But when Dr Jeff Spillane put a scope in Mr Sveden's throat, he found the sprouting pea, which was half an inch long. Dr Spillane says the pea "went down the wrong way" and took root.
