Manhattan fire: NYU Medical Centre hit by blaze

A two-alarm fire broke out on the fifth floor of the NYU/Langone Medical Centre in New York City.

Images on social media captured plumes of black smoke spilling out from the building, filling the Manhattan skyline.

Firefighters are on the scene.

ABC7 reported that the fire started when roofing materials at a construction site ignited on a sub-roof level of the building. It was not part of the main hospital hospital building. reports that the hospital is not being evacuated. The fire has not been determined to be a threat to patients.

The fire has been contained by the fire department.

NYU relocated patients who were impacted by the smoke. No injuries have been reported.
