Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife Priscilla are to host a fundraiser for Chris Christie, the New Jersey governor.

According to the Buzzfeed website Zuckerberg, who is America's youngest billionaire, will host a fundraiser next month in his Palo Alto home for the outspoken governor's reelection campaign.

Christie is up for reelection this year and first met Zuckerberg in 2010, when the billionaire donated $100 million to Newark public schools.

The fundraiser is the first known political fundraising activity by Zuckerberg, and the Facebook founder has never made a publicly disclosed political contribution in his life.

Zuckerberg, who is worth an estimated $9.4 billion, becomes one of a number of deep-pocketed donors that have contributed to Christie's reelection campaign.

New Jersey paper The Record reports that the governor collected $2.14million in campaign funds in the final quarter of 2012.

According to the report on the Buzzfeed website  Zuckerberg's interest in Christie comes from the governor's education reform proposals.

'They admire his leadership on education reform and other issues and look forward to continuing their important work together on behalf of Newark's school children. Mark and Priscilla are happy to host him at their home to support his re-election,' Facebook spokesman Sarah Feinberg told Buzzfeed.

Despite Zuckerberg's billionaire status any individual contributions to Christie's campaign will be limited to $3,800 in keeping with New Jersey's campaign finance laws.
