A mother’s unique punishment for her son who was suspended from school has gone viral.

Demetris Payne, from Louisiana, was forced into action after her 13-year-old son, Jadarien, was punished at school for talking back.

On his first day out of three away from school Jadarien was with his grandfather eating strawberries and having fun.

At this point Ms Payne decided to take the punishment into her own hands. She took to social media and volunteered Jadarien to clean up people’s gardens free of charge for the remainder of his suspension, CBS News reported.

"My son has been suspended for three days from school for discipline. He will do your lawn service, he will rake your yard, mow if you supply the mower, pick up trash, or wash your car for free. Maximum three hours. If anyone has a rake they would like to donate will be awesome,” she posted on Facebook.

Responses came flooding in and Jadarien was reportedly completely booked up.

"He didn't believe it. I can be soft on him and baby him sometimes," Ms Payne said.

"We explained to him that these chores weren't to punish, punish, punish, but to teach him a lesson and teach him about discipline. No matter if the teacher is right or wrong - always respect your teachers, respect adults," she added.

After cleaning eight gardens Jadarien was happy to be returning to school.

He has now come up with a plan with his teachers to make sure he stays on track and does not get suspended again.
