Oregon residents gathered in the streets and counted down to midnight to smoke up and celebrate the legalisation of marijuana on Tuesday.

People excited for Oregon's legalisation gathered at Burnside Bridge in downtown Portland to light spliffs, bowls and blunts in celebration. The legalisation paves the way for new business across the state with the end of adult prohibition.

Oregon residents 21-years-and up may now smoke and grow privately. They may grow up to four plants amassing 227 ( eight ounces), according to the Liquor Control Comission.

According to Reuters, Portland police have been mocking the lazy stereotypes of habitual marijuana users, stating that residents may legally possess the weight equivalent of a donut.
