Pentagon faces $78bn cuts

The pentagon has announced plans to cut $78bn (£50bn) in US defence spending over five years, including a reduction of 47,000 troops.

The proposal follows increased White House and congressional scrutiny of military spending, which has doubled since the 9/11, attacks, and come after a decade of costly conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.
