Slice of Charles and Diana's wedding cake sold at auction for £800
The item, from 1981, was snapped up by a private buyer at an LA auction house
A private collector has paid roughly £833 for a slice of cake from Charles and Diana’s 1981 wedding.
The foodstuff, which is older than Prince William at 33-years-old, is still in its original white and silver presentation box.
It was sold in the US by Nate D Sanders Auctions of Los Angeles for $1,375, much to the delight of a passionate group of royal cake collectors.
According to Sam Heller, the auction house spokesman, some dedicated royal followers have even purchased cakes from the Victorian era.
Charles and Diana’s cake also comes with a card with the words: “With best wishes from Their Royal Highnesses, the Prince and Princess of Wales.”
Mr Heller added that it would not be a good idea to try and eat the cake.
Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married on 29 July 1981 in St Paul's Cathedral, in a service that was watched by an estimated global audience of 750million.
