The biggest ranch in America has just gone on sale.

At 510,527 acres, the W T Waggoner Estate Range is bigger than London and has hundreds of homes on its site - and will cost any potential buyer a cool $275 million (£177 million).

It is the largest continuous ranch in North America and spans six counties in northern Texas and has been under the same family ownership since 1849.

It has 20 cowboy camps, hundreds of quarter horses, thousands of cattle, 1,200 oil wells and 30,000 acres of cultivated land, the Associated Press reports, and has been dubbed “the Statue of Liberty” of cowboy culture.

Bernard Uechtritz, of Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty, is handling the sale and believes the ranch is the largest and most expensive estate in the world.

The Associated Press reports the ranch has been the subject of a legal dispute among the heirs of the estate for 12 years, and the family members eventually agreed to list the estate after the court housing the case said it was considering ordering the auction of the range’s assets.
