Warning: Video contains strong language
Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has apologised for making threats to commit “first-degree murder” against an unknown person during a drunken video rant.
Mr Ford told reporters in the Canadian city he had been “extremely inebriated” in a video which has just been revealed and described it as "embarrassing" and that he knew "the whole world is going to see it".
It is the latest controversy to hit the mayor, who admitted earlier this week to having smoked crack cocaine, after video footage was obtained by police who allege he can be seen smoking the drug.
Fellow councillors have now increased the urgency of their calls for Mr Ford, 44, to resign.
The latest footage appears as if it may have been filmed in secret using a mobile phone.
In the video, Mr Ford says he wants to rip out an unnamed person's throat, poke out his eyes and kill him.
The agitated politician seems to vent his anger at someone who has called him and his brothers “liars, thieves”.
“No hold barred, brother,” Mr Ford shouts. “He dies or I die.”
A voice in the background is then heard to say: “Mike Tyson!” - an apparent reference to the mayor.
Speaking outside his office in Toronto last night, Mr Ford said: “It's extremely embarrassing and I don't know what to say.”
“I hope none of you have ever or will ever be in that state.
”The whole world is going to see it,“ he said.
Mr Ford was elected as Mayor in 2010.Reuse content
