A giant inflatable Donald Trump "rat" is to make an appearance in Washington DC.

The 15-foot tall caricature of the US President will sit on the green at Dupont Circle for two days, a short distance away from the White House.

The blown-up version of Mr Trump comes complete with a Russian flag pin and Confederate flag cufflinks.

It made its first appearance near Trump Tower as Mr Trump arrived at his home in New York two weeks ago.

The art installation's co-creator John Post Lee told The Washington Post he asked himself what he could do after "this debacle of an election.

“I wanted to do something meaningful, and also something cathartic to help myself,” he said.

He launched a Kickstarter campaign for "Trumpy the Rat" which was backed by hundreds of people who pledged over $10,000 (£7,750).

"Do not underestimate the value in ridiculing and taunting psychopaths, sociopaths, narcissists, antisocial-personality disordered, kleptocratic bullies," the campaign's page said.

Mr Lee went on to tell the paper the inflatable president is not supposed to be a symbol of anger or hate, but a satirical commentary of Mr Trump.

When asked how long the stunt would continue, Mr lee said: "As long as Trump is in office, Trump Rat lives."
