Mark Cuban hints he may run for president

Mark Cuban is “seriously considering” running against Donald Trump should the latter decide to seek a second term as US President in 2020.

Mr Cuban, who sold video portal business Broadcast.com to Yahoo in 1999 and is worth an estimated $3.3bn (£2.5bn), said he could challenge Mr Trump for the Republican nomination.

While describing himself as “fiercely independent”, he told Fox News he would most likely run as a GOP candidate.

He said: “I think there’s a place for somebody who is socially a centrist, but I’m very fiscally conservative.

“But I think there are better ways now to make the government smaller than the traditional Republican ways."

Asked if he was contemplating a run for president, he replied: “Considering? Yes. Made a decision? Far from."

He added: “I wouldn’t run unless I have solutions. If I have solutions, then I have something to offer. If I don’t, you won’t see me anywhere near being a politician.”

He claimed his wife “hates” the idea of him running for president, but added: “My kids love it.”

“That’s an influencing factor,” he said. “My family is everything to me.”

Mr Cuban, who owns the Dallas Mavericks basketball team, backed Hillary Clinton in 2016 and was touted as a possible running mate for the Democrat candidate.

Earlier this month, he told a conference that running for president “is something I’m seriously considering”, although on that occasion he said he was most likely to stand as an independent.
