What is the State of the Union?

Donald Trump will be delivering his State of the Union speech after initially agreeing to postpone the presidential address.

The speech will be on Tuesday, February 5, about one week after the it was originally scheduled for January 29.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi requested Mr Trump postpone his State of the Union address until after the long and grueling government shutdown was over.

The 35-day shutdown, the longest federal closure in American history, ended on January 25.

There are many different options to choose to watch the State of the Union address, which is scheduled to begin at 9pm EST (2amGMT).

All major networks and cable news channels will be covering the presidential address including CBS, CNN, MSNBC and CSPAN.

For those online, the State of the Union address can be seen on Facebook as live-streams through the cable news channels Facebook pages. The White House will also be airing the address on its website. YouTube will also air the address.

Following Mr Trump’s speech, former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams will be delivering the Democrats response.

California Attorney General Xavier Becerra will be delivering the Democratic rebuttal in Spanish.
