Random rampaging raccoons beware - you'd be advised to avoid the home of Digg founder, venture partner at Google and all round social media entrepreneur Kevin Rose.

The social news pioneer has posted a video on YouTube of him rescuing his pet dog, Toaster, from what appears to be a savage raccoon attack.

The footage, which has been viewed over 2.5m times on YouTube since it was posted yesterday, shows Mr Rose intervening after his dog was attacked by a raccoon in an alley around his house.

The video shows Mr Rose pulling the animal off his dog before throwing it violently down the staircase.

At the start of the video, he writes that he "does not encourage animal violence", but wanted to get the wild animal away from his dog as quickly as possible.

He adds that Toaster was largely unharmed but had some claw and bite marks.

The health status of the raccoon is not known.
