Zumba dance teacher admits prostitution charge - meaning her clients will not be called as witnesses
Sunday 31 March 2013
A zumba instructor has admitted using her dance studio as a front for a prostitution ring that involved scores of men. The plea means that Alexis Wright will avoid a trial, as will her clients who might have been called as witnesses.
Ms Wright, 30, pleaded guilty yesterday to 20 charges, and may be jailed when she is sentenced on 31 May. She was fined $57,000. The news that Ms Wright ran a sex ring in the small town of Kennebunk, Maine, not far from the summer home of former President George Bush Snr, caused a sensation. It was reported that she had at least 150 clients, leading to a guessing game of who might be named publicly.
Those charged so far have included a former mayor, a school ice-hockey coach and a minister.
