Volunteers are rushing to rescue hundreds of cats confiscated from a dealer and released into a mountainous area in eastern China.

Authorities had stopped a truck transporting about 1,000 cats. On finding that it lacked the proper permits, officials decided to release the cats into the wild.

About 50 felines have been caught since 1 November near Wuxi City in Jiangsu province.
