British soldier is killed in Helmand
A British soldier has been killed on patrol in southern Afghanistan. He was from 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Regiment, but has not been named. He died yesterday when an improvised explosive device was triggered while he was on a routine foot patrol in Sangin, Helmand provinc.
Next of kin have been informed. The soldier is the 117th British serviceman to be killed in Afghanistan since November 2001.
