A Soviet-era jet broke its wing, flipped over and caught fire as it tried to land in deep fog in southern Kyrgyzstan yesterday. Miraculously none of the 84 passengers on board the twin-engined Tu-134 died, though 31 were injured, officials said.
The plane was operated by the local carrier Kyrgyzstan, which like all airlines registered in the country is banned from flying in the European Union due to safety concerns.
