International forces have killed the Taliban insurgents responsible for shooting down a US helicopter and killing 38 US and Afghan soldiers over the weekend, the US military said, but they are still seeking the insurgent leader they were going after in Saturday's mission.
Marine Corps General John Allen said yesterday that an F-16 airstrike on Monday killed up to 10 insurgents involved in the attack on the Chinook helicopter in Wardak province, eastern Afghanistan.
In a separate statement, the military said the strike killed Taliban leader Mullah Mohibullah and the insurgent who fired the RPG at the helicopter. It said intelligence gained on the ground provided a high degree of confidence that the insurgent who fired the grenade was the person killed.
