Belarus clamps down on union
Moscow - President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus has suspended parliamentary immunity and banned an independent trade union which called a transport strike last month. Interfax news agency reported deputies on local councils were also deprived of immunity from prosecution under the presidential decree on "measures to ensure stability and public order". AFP
