A visit by Boutros Boutros-Ghali, the UN Secretary-General, sparked scuffles and stone-throwing between rival groups in the southern Somali town of Baidoa yesterday, while protesters erected burning barricades in the capital, AFP reports from Mogadishu. Mr Boutros-Ghali cancelled a visit to a school and an orphanage in Baidoa. He left Somalia after spending a short time at Mogadishu airport and visiting a nearby field hospital.
