Colonel shot dead in Spain

A Spanish army colonel was shot dead in central Barcelona yesterday in an attack blamed by local officials on Basque Eta separatists, Reuter reports from Barcelona. The officer, Leopoldo Garcia, 59, was shot close to his home in a residential area housing several military families.
