If the reduction of the UN peace force creates tensions, Cyprus will ask Greece to send troops to the island, AP reports from Nicosia. The government spokesman, Yannakis Cassoulides, said President Glafcos Clerides mentioned the prospect to Marrack Goulding, the UN under-secretary-general for political affairs, when he visited Cyprus last month. But Greece said it did not intend to send more troops.
