LAGOS (Reuter) - Nigerians vote today for a civilian legislature they hope will revive the economy once the military go back to barracks in January. Voters will choose between the welfare-oriented Social Democratic Party and the conservative National Republic Convention in elections for a 589-seat house of representatives and a 91- member senate.

The vote is a step in the military government's phased programme to return Africa's most populous nation to democratic rule on 2 January after presidential polls on 5 December.
