Diaries to be examined

Judge Thomas Penfield Jackson acknowledged that the material sought by the committee was 'extremely personal and private in nature'. But he said the committee, which subpoenaed the diaries, will review the materials in a manner that 'respects Senator Packwood's legitimate expectations of privacy and is, therefore, reasonable'. The diaries are in the court's custody.
