Egypt arrests 70 Muslims after Cairo gun battle
Egyptian security forces have detained 70 Muslim fundamentalist suspects for an armed attack in Cairo that left four people dead and four wounded, AFP reports from Cairo. The arrests took place both in Cairo and the southern provinces of Aswan and Asyut.
The underground Jamaa Islamiyya claimed responsibility for Sunday's attack on the car of an army officer mistaken for General Ahmad Abdallah, chairman of military courts which have condemned several Islamic militants to death. Two assailants, a police captain and a passer-by died in a gun battle.
