President Hosni Mubarak appointed a new interior minister, Hassan Mohammed al-Alfi, after dismissing Mohammed Abdel-Halim Moussa, the man who lost ground in the struggle to contain Islamic militancy, Reuter reports from Cairo. Mr Alfi is governor of Assiut, a southern province which is the main centre of clashes between militants and security forces.
