A total of 129 England fans have been banned from following the team to Gelsenkirchen for their quarter-final against Portugal on Saturday, German police said today.

The supporters, who were among 500 detained in Stuttgart over the weekend, will be barred from Gelsenkirchen between today and 9 July, the date of the World Cup final.

Beatrice Grant, a police spokeswoman in Gelsenkirchen, said: "The ban covers the city, fanfest and stadium."

The bans were imposed after Stuttgart police passed information about those arrested to their colleagues in Gelsenkirchen.
