Nearly 1,000 British tourists are trapped in a ski resort after parts of the Austrian Alps were cut off by unprecedented snowfall.

The village of Ischgl is one of the worst affected, with 5.5m falling in the past month, nearly as much as it received in the whole of last year's ski season. One wealthy Russian reportedly became so desperate to escape that he arranged for a helicopter to pick him up.

St Anton, Galtur and Arlberg have also been affected.
