A British teenager is in hospital with serious injuries after reportedly falling seven floors from a balcony in Majorca while on holiday.

Grace Ford, 17, who recently completed her A-levels at the fee-paying Kirkham Grammar School in Lancashire, was injured on Saturday.

She is now being treated in hospital in Palma with her parents at her bedside.

An 18-year-old British man was arrested following the incident.

Ms Ford is reportedly on the island with a group of sixth-form friends from the grammar school.

Douglas Walker, headmaster of Kirkham Grammar School, said: "School has learnt today that one of its ex-pupils has been seriously injured while holidaying in Majorca.

"The girl, awaiting A-level results, is currently in hospital and her parents are present.

"All those who have learnt of this awful accident are thinking of her and her family at this extremely difficult time.

"No further details are known."

A spokeswoman for the Foreign Office said: "We can confirm a British national was hospitalised on July 17 in Palma, Majorca, and we are in touch with the family providing consular assistance."
