Charlie Hebdo gunman Said Kouachi buried in low-key ceremony

One of the gunmen who attacked the offices of the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo has been quietly buried after a low-key ceremony, French officials have said.

The mayor of the city of Reims, where the burial took place, had initially refused to allow the burial of Said Kouachi, but was eventually forced to relent.

"He was buried last night, in the most discreet, anonymous way possible," Mr Arnaud Robinet told French television channel BFM TV.

Mr Robinet did not identify which cemetery the gunman had been buried in, and said he did not know where in the cemetery he had been buried.

Said Kouachi was shot dead along with his brother Cherif in a stand-off with French counter-terrorism police.

Cherif Kouachi will be buried in the Parisian suburb of Gennevilliers, where he lived, the municipality said in a statement.

The pair killed 12 people at the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

There has been no announcement on the plans to bury Amedy Coulibaly, who French authorities said killed five people including four hostages at a kosher supermarket in Paris.
