Clandestine photos of the 2011 trial of Ukraine's jailed ex-Prime
Minister Yulia Tymoshenko are being exhibited for the first time in
Photographer and journalist Mustafa Nayem took many of the 28 snapshots illegally by using an i-Phone — after cameras were banned last summer in the court.
When Tymoshenko was jailed for seven years in October over abuse of office charges, that was condemned by the West.
Her daughter, Eugenia Tymoshenko — who opened the exhibit today at Paris' 6th district city hall — said: "The truth (is) that these people now in prison are there ... because they are political opponents to the (Ukrainian) regime."
Allegations that Tymoshenko was beaten in prison in April led to the EU's decision to boycott Ukraine's Euro 2012 soccer championship.
