Russia's second city, St Petersburg, with 4.9m people, has voted to demand the same status as one of the country's ethnic republics, Reuter reports from St Petersburg. Results of Sunday's overall Russian referendum showed 75 per cent of those voting had supported a fifth question on the ballot: 'Do you agree that St Petersburg as a separate part of the Russian Federation should have the same rights as the republics making up the Russian Federation?'
