France seeks more money for farmers
FRANCE yesterday pressed for more cash for its farmers as part of the price of a worldwide trade pact. Negotiators are trying to bring six years of talks on the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade to a close, but there had been fears that demands from France could wreck a deal. However, the horse-trading suggests that it may be bought off. Officials say the extra cost of the measures demanded by Paris could be well over 500m ecus (pounds 390m) in total.
