A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with several bomb threats in Paris, including one at a central railway station, French police said today.

The man was detained in the town of Meudon, south-west of the capital, on suspicion of links to a phoned-in threat at Saint-Lazare station.

No further details were immediately available.

French authorities have been stepping up their vigilance about the terror threat, and recorded nine bomb alerts in the capital last month, including at the Eiffel Tower - a threefold increase from a year earlier. No explosives have been found.

Yesterday, the US State Department issued rare advisory for US travellers to be aware of potential terrorist threats in Europe.
