Pakistan freezes nuclear project
ISLAMABAD - Benazir Bhutto, Pakistan's Prime Minister, announced yesterday the freezing of the country's nuclear programme, agencies report. She claimed the freeze, unpopular at home, had begun during the term of Nawaz Sharif, who resigned in July.
But Ms Bhutto added that she would not 'roll back' the programme, as demanded by senior American officials who have just visited Pakistan. The country is believed to be capable of producing one or several nuclear weapons in a short period of time.
