Riot police fired tear gas to disperse dozens of protesting steelworkers in Paris yesterday.
The workers, from the ArcelorMittal steel mill in Florange, in easter France, had been trying to reach President Nicolas Sarkozy's campaign headquarters. They blame him for failing to halt the decline of French industry, which has shed more than 350,000 jobs since he took office.
The President claimed the 150 workers were more interested in playing politics than in finding solutions.
