HAVANA - Cuba's President Fidel Castro said two policemen were killed during attempted hijackings of three ferry boats to the United States on Thursday. He was speaking yesterday while visiting the scene of disturbances on the seafront area of Havana earlier in the day when groups of people throwing stones and chanting anti-government slogans had clashed with police.

The disturbances erupted after several hundred people gathered at the portside, drawn by news of the hijacks by people trying to flee Cuba. Reuter
