Violent clashes between authorities and football supporters have broken out in Poland over the weekend following the death of a fan who was killed by a rubber bullet shot by police.

The confirmation of the death of the 27-year-old man, known only as Dawid, on Saturday night triggered angry reactions from around 200 football fans in Knurow, south Poland.

The fighting between the police and the supporters of local team Concordia Knurow began during their Polish league match against rivals Ruch Radzionkow.

With their team trailing 4-1, the Knurow supporters stormed the pitch forcing the match to be stopped.

Police resorted to using rubber bullets to quell the violence, with one hitting and fatally wounding the 27-year-old.

Authorities have now announced that an autopsy to reveal the cause of Dawid’s autopsy is currently under way, with prosecutors currently investigating.
