Commonwealth countries could lift trade and investment sanctions against South Africa within weeks, the Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku said on a visit to Australia, Reuter reports from Canberra.
The lifting of sanctions seemed likely because of the progress of multi-party all-race talks towards setting a date for an election in the white-ruled republic, he said.
