Serbia elections: Landslide victory for ruling centre-right political party

 

The state electoral commission has confirmed a landslide victory by the ruling centre-right party in parliamentary elections.

It said the Serbian Progressive Party, former ultra-nationalists turned pro-EU reformers, won an absolute majority on Sunday, with 158 seats in the 250-strong parliament.

The Socialist Party of Serbia, founded by late autocratic leader Slobodan Milosevic, came in second with 44 seats. The Democratic Party won 19 seats and the New Democratic Party of former President Boris Tadic has 18 seats.
