Ship sinks
Naval and air rescue teams battled with gale-force winds and rain in the search for 40 people missing after an Indian freighter en route from Britain to Bombay sank off Spain's north-western coast. Searchers rescued 16 crewmen - one of whom later died - but 39 others on board the Vishva Mohini before it sank were still missing, AP reports from Gijon.
