At least four people were injured in an extraordinary mass pile-up involving 80 cars on a highway outside of Moscow.

The incident which happened in rush hour near the town of Zhukovsky to the south-east of Moscow saw two lorries crash into each other, causing a block in the road.

With heavy fog across Moscow, oncoming drivers were unable to see the crashed vehicles ahead and unwittingly ploughed straight into them. This led to a major pile up with the majority of cars receiving some form of damage.

According to police, the fog was some of the worst Moscow has seen this year with visibility being reduced to around just five metres.

Video from after the incident captured the massive traffic jam which was reported to have been completely stationary for over three hours.
