Fifa is experiencing the greatest crisis in its history after it was rocked by dual corruption scandals on Wednesday morning – and it has proved to be front-page news around the world.

The governing body of football, an influential force across the globe, is now facing increasing pressure from its key sponsors to “clean up its act”, after allegations of decades of bribery and racketeering.

Fifa itself said it was not surprised by the arrests on Wednesday morning, though they occurred at dawn as unsuspecting officials attended the organisation’s annual Congress in Zurich.
